Dear All,

It is with great sadness that I have to advise of the passing on Sunday 5th August 2018 of Anne Finch, aged 75. Anne had been unwell for some while, but throughout her sad decline she faced life with great dignity and bravery.

Before her retirement and move to the IoW Anne worked for many years as a nurse in the student welfare department of the Royal Holloway University. Shortly after her move to the Island Anne joined and became a much loved and valued member of the Isle of Wight Scottish Fiddlers.

Notwitstanding her musical and many other talents, Anne will be most notably remembered for her amazing work in helping to rescue cast out and unwanted greyhounds. This work not only focused on greyhounds within the UK, it also included greyhounds in the same sorry state from all around the world.

Anne's Funeral Service will take place at Holy Trinity Church, Bembridge, on Thursday 6th September, at 1:15pm. Greyhounds are especially welcome at the service, and donations will be divided between EMH, Motor Neurone Disease and Parkinson's UK.

Our sincere condolences go out to Anne's sister Barbara and other family members.

The Annual General Meeting of the Isle of Wight Scottish Fiddlers took place on 22nd April 2018, and this saw a number of new faces stepping up to the plate and taking on Committee roles. The changes resulted from long standing members Penny Gower-Johnson and Elaine Fry retiring from Committee life, Peter Joyce leaving the Island after 20 years service to the IWSF to live in Norfolk, and Shirley Camfield leaving the group due to increased family committments.  The IWSF President - Jean Reid, paid tribute to the retiring members and on behalf of all the members thanked them for all their hard work over the years. The new Committee can be seen on the "About Us" page of this website (and below).

The Isle of Wight Scottish Fiddlers had the pleasure of performing in front of a very receptive and welcoming audience at Whitwell Parish Church on Saturday 21st April 2018. This was despite the accompaniment of the thunder and lightning that persisted throughout the evening. During the half time break everybody sampled the delights of a wonderful cheese and wine supper. The evening was a fundraiser towards the building of the long awaited toilet facilities at the Church.

Thank you Whitwell for making us feel so welcome.

The Scottish Fiddlers played to a very attentive and supportive audience at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake, on Friday 18th September. During the half time interval tea, coffee and biscuits was provided by the friends of the Church, and a very well supported raffle was drawn.

Following the recent retirement of the resident Vicar, the Concert was in aid of much needed Church funds, as the congregation are desperately seeking to keep their Church going whilst they await the hopeful prospect of a new Minister being appointed.

The follow-up letter below was very kindly sent to the Fiddlers by June Mortlock - Fundraiser and Chairman of the Good Shepherd PCC.

The Scottish Fiddlers wish the congregation well in their future endeavours, and look forward to helping again in the future.

Would all 'Fiddlers please note that the rehearsal scheduled for 24th May 2015 has been cancelled. This is because this date coincides with the Bank Holiday weekend and Half Term for the Schools.

In view of the impending Concert at All Saints, Freshwater, on 13th June 2015, an additional rehearsal has been arranged for Sunday 7th June, 18:00hrs, at the Newport Congregational Church Hall in Pyle Street. We look forward to seeing you there.

Following on from the Concert held on 11th April 2015 at Priory School, Whippingham, which was in aid of the Replacement Heating System Fund for the nearby Whippingham Church, a letter of grateful thanks from the Church has been received and is reproduced below;-

St Mildred’s Church at Whippingham is in desperate need of a new heating system to replace their old and broken one – which is now beyond economic repair. To achieve their aim, the Church Council, Friends Association and parishioners are pursuing a range of fundraising activities including; second-hand book sales, coffee mornings and evening Concerts to raise the required funds.
On Saturday 11th April the Priory School at Whippingham very kindly allowed the use of their School Hall for a Concert performance by the Isle of Wight Scottish Fiddlers. The result was a packed Hall and many positive comments in respect of the entertainment provided. During the half time interval Friends of the Church provided teas, coffees and traditional Scottish shortbread, and the proceeds raised by this, the ticket sales and a raffle resulted in almost £300 being added towards the Heating Fund. Many thanks go out to everyone who helped in making this a very successful and enjoyable evening.
